Mental health

Mental wellbeing is an important topic for students and fortunately it is getting more attention every day. The UT has a department called SGW (Student Guidance & Well-Being) that offers a lot of support on well-being for those who need to: https://www.utwente.nl/en/sgw/. We understand it could be hard to find out who to reach out to for help, so an additional small overview is given below.

Personal circumstances

Several personal circumstances can complicate studying and affect your study progress. For an overview of what to do in each specific case, visit the following website: https://www.utwente.nl/en/sgw/regulations/stof/.

Confidential advisor

If you need to get something of your chest, or would you like to talk to someone in confidence, you can talk to a confidential advisor. The UT offers the confidential advisors through SGW: https://www.utwente.nl/en/sgw/support-from-professionals/confidential-advisor/. Unacceptable behaviours such as sexual harassment, discrimination, or aggression can reduce your sense of security and pleasure in your studies. It can lead to stress and mental or physical complaints. Therefore, do not ignore such behaviour and please talk to someone about it.

Confidential contact persons

If you prefer to talk to another student, you can contact a confidential contact person. A list with students from many different studies can be found here.
One of the confidential contact persons is a member of Abacus. So, if you want to talk to someone that is closer to our association, you can send Manou an email at any moment. She will introduce herself shortly below. Note that she, like the other confidential contact persons, is not an accredited counsellor, and she is doing this on a voluntary basis.
