Predicting the Future with Algorithms

Algorithms, you hear more and more about them. They control what you watch on YouTube, what you find on Google and they drive self-driving cars. The House of Representatives even wants to introduce a reporting obligation for algorithms to prevent abuses such as the allowance affair. But what exactly are algorithms? How do they work? What is their predictive power and what are their downsides?

In this Science Café, Prof. Dr. Mariëlle Stoelinga (Professor of risk management for high-tech systems, UT) talks about algorithms. Dr. Jeroen Linssen (Associate Lector Ambient Intelligence, Saxion) gives practical examples in the field of Smart Maintenance: can we use algorithms to detect malfunctions and production errors, so that we can prevent train delays?

Talk show host: Dr. Steven Dorrestijn (Lector Ethics and Technology, Saxion).

In collaboration with Abacus, Ideefiks and KIVI Students Twente.

This lecture will be in Dutch!
