This lunch lecture from Rijkswaterstaat will be given by Tineke Wiersma, an alumni of Applied Mathematics at the UT who was the Secretary of the 19th board and the Chair of the 20th board of Abacus!

Rijkswaterstaat is een uitvoeringsorganisatie van de rijksoverheid, en is verantwoordelijk voor het netwerk van snelwegen, waterwegen en het watersysteem. Deze brengen je van A naar B, en zorgen dat we in Nederland droge voeten houden. Samen met meer dan 10.000 collega’s werken we aan projecten die de veiligheid, leefbaarheid en bereikbaarheid van Nederland verbeteren. Zo geven we vorm aan het Nederland van morgen, een grote verantwoordelijkheid.

Deze lezing gaat in op de diverse werkzaamheden van toegepast wiskundigen bij Rijkswaterstaat en zoomt vervolgens in op het modeleren en kwantificeren van de risico’s voor weggebruikers in tunnels.
