About Len Spek
Hi, I’m Len Spek the general adjunct of Abacus of the 56th board. I already joined in 2012 when I started with my Applied Math studies here at the UT. During my time as a student, I organised the symposium ‘Safe and Secure’ and the study trip to Switzerland. In 2018, I finished my Master Thesis with former professor Stephan van Gils and continued with my PhD at the Mathematics of Imaging and AI (MIA) chair with Christoph Brune. In January 2023, I defended my PhD thesis ‘Analysis of Dynamics of Neural Fields and Neural Networks’ and am now working as a PostDoc and Teacher at the Math Department.
My favourite branch of mathematics is ‘Continuous Mathematics’, with topics such as Functional Analysis, Differential Equations and Delay Equations. I’m currently involved in the Math modelling line, the Nonlinear Dynamics master course, math courses for TG and BMT and Deep Learning master course. I’m also working on several projects on how we can incorporate AI tools like ChatGPT properly in education.
In my free time, I’m active as a Scuba dive instructor at ZPV Piranha on campus. I also love travelling and being in the outdoors, like sailing, mountainbiking, hiking in the mountains or airsoft skirming.
